So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom (Psalms 90:12 NKJV).
God's word is full of reminders that we are not here for very long. It does not let us forget that our lives are but vapor, grass today, and kindling tomorrow. I think of my children, my family, and my friends, and as we get older, I ask myself, "Do I have enough energy and strength to keep up? Do I have the physical strength to make the most of each day with them now and in the future?" For example, if on the spur of the moment someone invites me to go on a hike, am I able to keep up physically? Or, is my lack of unhealthy diet/fitness keeping me from enjoying these activities?
So, here is the key...be a MOVER.
Make the time. True, we don't have time, therefore, we need to make the time and it comes at the cost of giving something else up...like screen time?
Operate under the right motive - to enjoy the abundant life God wants to give you.
Vary the exercise and time. Change the order in which you work out. If you always start with sit-ups and pushups, then do cardio, then hit the weights. Try varying these activities to keep your body and mind engaged.
Evaluate your week and preplan. To begin; commit to 10-15 minutes. On those days when you would rather lie on the couch, try committing to 10 minutes, 15 minutes tops; maybe a quick walk, maybe pull weeds in your garden. Ten minutes is better than vegging out with a bowl of pretzels and the current season of American Idol.
Reward yourself! Set a goal, then reward yourself with a trip to the Spa or your favorite boutique. Or, for goodness sakes, enjoy some ice cream.
So, are you seizing the day?
