As we fill our hearts with God's Word, the desire to encourage each other becomes a natural byproduct: "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matt 12:34). Here are three practical principles I love, that help me share the encouraging truth of God with others:
1. Praying on the spot. A great way to encourage others is to pray with them. Whether it's the woman in the store who is depressed after losing her mom or your best friend who is struggling to find time for her quiet times, a little prayer goes a long way. (1 Thess 5:17)
2. Send scriptures. Text messages, email, even good old-fashioned note cards are wonderful ways to share God's love with friends. Often friends encourage me when they pass on scripture that God shares with them during their quiet time. What a wonderful way to be remembered. (Col 3:16)
3. Compliment others! Sounds cliche but the easiest way to encourage someone is through compliments. Make it a point, when spending time with other Christians, to notice God working in and through them and don't be afraid to tell them! There is nothing more encouraging than knowing others can see Jesus in you. (Matt 5:16)
