"And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more..." (Philippians 1:9).
Last week I celebrated my first Mother's Day as a mother! For so many years I have always viewed Mother's Day as a day devoted to showing my Mom how much I loved and appreciated her -- a mom appreciation day! Growing up it was a day my siblings and I made "I love you, Mom" cards, gave extra snuggles, and did whatever Mom wanted to do for the day without debate. I looked forward to the day I would be a mother and get a day devoted to me besides my birthday. However, this year I learned that Mother's Day held so much more significance. It was a day that marked a new beginning in my life. Yes, Mother's Day will always be a day that will remind me how blessed I am to have my Mom, but now it holds a unique definition in my life. It is not a day about being appreciated as a mom, but appreciating the gift of being a mom. The Lord has abundantly blessed me through my son Seth. I now understand the sacrifice of God's love more than I ever did in prior years. To truly grasp God's love for us is unfathomable, but the unconditional love I have for Seth has given me a new appreciation for our heavenly Father's love. The greatest gift the Lord has given me this year was the gift of new sight through becoming a mother.
